Both of the Labor and Liberal leaders have recently supported a big increase in Australia's population. They are making a mistake and I believe they don't reflect the will of the people. Their joint platform leaves Australians no voice on this issue.

Any farmer realises that he must know the stocking capacity of his property. To increase the population on the farm without knowing that is negligent. Bringing people to Australia until our environment buckles and standard of living is eroded is negligent.

While Australia is a large continent much of it is inhospitable. Migrants congregate in the cities and these have already exceeded their optimum population. We must now manufacture fresh water in factories.

If we are to decrease our use of carbon based fuel drastically this is incompatible with increasing our population at the same standard of living.

The idea that we will be richer with more people is ludicrous. We get our wealth from farming and mining which use few people. Our wealth creation is independent of population. More people means a smaller share each.

As the world population spirals upwards the rich countries will be those with lower not higher populations. China and India are welcome to their population problem.

The populate or perish argument is bulldust. We could never have enough people to defend on the basis of numbers if 230 million Indonesians wanted to come.

We should halt all migration now, hold a royal commission into our optimum population policy and then have this endorsed by referendum. Its too important for our politicians who only look for short term political opportunity.
