I'm sure they are, - if they are allowed to stay. Its easy to find stories where house-owning immigrants of substance with jobs and roots down in Australia, are deported for some technical visa breach or reason. It seems crazy to me to deport people who are contributing and replace them with uninvited people with no skills and no contribution.
Each time that happens, our standard of living takes a tiny hit. Too small to see but real just the same.
Its not about compassion. To be able to be compassionate first we must be healthy and solvent. And stay that way.
