    From an economic perspective, it is GDP per person that is important not just GDP. Immigration boosts GDP. There is no evidence that is boosts GDP per person. As for the ageing population, as Ross Gittins commented in the SMH this morning (I have print copy, not sure if article is on internet version), the ageing population means that we will only be 80 per cent richer in 2050 rather than 110 per cent richer. So do you want the problems of much higher urban density, pollution, water shortages etc just so you can 110 per cent richer rather than 80 per cent richer.

    I know which one I prefer and have written to my MP to tell her so.......
