Councils were set up to provide basic services, get rid of rubbish etc! Now we have them involved in all manner of things and grandiose ideas and constructions and increasing rates to pay for these.
My suggestion is for the Feds to get rid of all Councilors throughout the country and get the State Guvnuts to appoint a Minister to look after all Councils in each State. They must be hounded to do the basics like rubbish etc and the money saved should go back to ratepayers by way of reduced rates. Each Council should be headed by a CEO who could only stay there for two 3 or 4 year terms.
