Canada does equal Australia - because both are overpriced...I've been living in Toronto for the past 18 months so have a little bit of local knowledge. It's the 5th most populous city in North America
In my industry, wages are roughly at the same level as Aus and the cost of living is about 20/30% cheaper
You can rent a 1 bedroom downtown unit (condo) for around $375 a week and it's truly in the CBD (no need for a car, everything is close walking distance). Good luck getting that in Sydney/Melbourne.
