@pow4ade; despite what countries including Australia and the USA unleashed throughout the Middle East the likes of ISIL and Al Quaeda are alive and spreading their obsessive, oppressive, manic ideology even today.
We stuffed up big time because Howard and Bush invaded Iraq based on lies about Saddam Hussein and stockpiles of WMDs - as predicated by Hussein we let the genie out of the bottle, creating the catalyst for what's been happening throughout the Middle East and much of Africa and which now may even be metamorphosing into something bigger and more oppressive than the diabolical mess we've left throughout the Middle East.
