    All sensationalism, yes it is wrong to exploit people for any reason, but it has been going on for centuries!

    The thread header should read..."Western Consumers demand lower prices on goods forcing people to work for low wages".

    It is the Western consumer's relentless demand for low priced goods, and the Western societies penchant for profit which causes the problem.

    Are we prepared to pay $50.00 for a singlet? Or $50.00 for a T Shirt? If Western style wages and conditions were available to everybody in the world that is what we would pay for basic clothing. Our rag trade was forced overseas in the first place by these countries offering clothing for a fraction of the price we could produce for. Now as we have pretty well no rag trade, we rely on these cheap overseas suppliers to keep us clothed at a fraction of what it would costs to produce here.

    We have no control over what wages are paid or what conditions are offered to workers...if the unions hadn't forced our industry to shut down years ago maybe we would have some control as we would have our own industry...
