I lived in Asia for nearly a decade and I remember reading an article about the suspicious suicides.
A lot of it had to do with Thai hookers marrying expats whilst already having a Thai husband (which is very common). After the expat buys a house or apartment, he commits suicide not long after. The running joke in Thailand was that they jumped out of a building with their hands and legs tied.
I'm pretty sure i saved the article somewhere or emailed it to a few mates I know in Thailand. I'll try to dig it up. It was interesting reading.
If you haven't already done it, get a book called "Private Dancer". Every expat who moves to Thailand should receive this book as they are getting off the plane. I have met many blokes over the years who have been ripped off.
