A leader, and one of the world's top 3 batsmen, shouldn't need to be dragged reluctantly up the order from No5, where he has been selfishly protecting his averages. They've been throwing all manner of inexperienced, marginal characters at 1-4 whilst Clarke refuses to move from 5.
Whilst his batting average has been soaring at No5, we were beaten at home by S Africa, just squeeked a series win at home against Sri Lanka and are currently getting smashed by India. NOW he decides he may need to move up the order! We like oaptains to lead from the front, not make heroic rear guard gestures after the match is lost. Something for Clarke to contemplate next time he and Warne are in front of the mirror fixing their hair.
A couple of years ago Watson should have been made captain.
