Data services provider Swiftel has recorded 100 average daily orders for its ADSL subscription service for the past three months.
A statement released by the ASX-listed company said that the company had received more than 3,400 ADSL applications in the January 2004 calendar month.
January brought the company’s activated broadband ADSL customer total to more than 15,000, it said.
“Average daily orders for the months of November 2003, December 2003 and January 2004 exceeded 100 per day,” Swiftel said.
The company said that the approximate breakdown of subscribers by state was 9,000 in New South Wales, 2,900 in Victoria, 2,100 in Western Australia and 1,000 in Queensland.
“Based on the current rate of subscriber acquisition, the company is well-placed to have 30,000 DSL subscribers by the end of June 2004,” Swiftel said.
A line graph provided by the company suggested that Swiftel’s ADSL subscription rate began exceeding expectations from July last year. Since then, actual new subscriptions had grown exponentially past the expected rate.
Swiftel had not expected to surpass the 15,000 ADSL subscriber mark until June 2004, the graph suggested.
Swiftel expected to sustain its rapid growth rate partly with a planned expansion of its ADSL coverage into Adelaide and Darwin by March.
“This means that Swiftel ADSL coverage will be available in all mainland capital cities with the exception of Canberra,” the company said.
Telstra -- the dominant telecommunications infrastructure provider -- recently announced it would extend ADSL coverage by increasing the distance that services were available at its ADSL-enabled exchanges from 3.5km to 4km.
“This means an increase of approximately 400,000 potential customers for broadband services in the Australian marketplace,” Swiftel said.
