it puzzles us too .... presumably they are all so used to putting the expenses on the credit card and it’s a habit hard to break? Whereas paying $5 for a coffee seems ridiculous as an everyday event.
We’ve started going to the Saturday markets at Rocklea (they’re at Woodridge too, if you enjoy the multicultural aspect) where many stalls only take cash. Cash is brilliant for making you realise what you’re spending; twice really, once when you withdraw it, and again when you hand it over. And the produce lasts longer than Coles/Woolies and is cheaper.
