Excellent DaveR, this is what parents should do to help their children. Unfortunately JonnoH just went on with his usual foolish rants without understanding the situation and as usual only sees his own one sided view.
I agree 100% that parents need to be involved with their childrens education.
I've always done the same as you, and the results show that its worthwhile.
Teachers can only do so much and its great to see that you as a parent realise your responsibility and help where necessary. It ended as a great result for your kids , its a pity more parents don't do the same.

As you mentioned before about the problems teachers have with controlling the classroom, this is unfortunately Australia's own making by allowing the children to run amuck knowing that they can't be disciplined.
Now Australia is almost the worst in the world, what a great achievement so now we're not only the dumbest but also the most naughty in class.

Australian classrooms are among the least disciplined in the world, according to a global survey, with a high proportion of students saying their learning time is lost to noise and disorder and they cannot work well in class.

Australia has ranked 70th out of 77 participating nations for classroom discipline.
Australia ranked a lowly 70th out of 77 participating nations in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s 2018 index of disciplinary climate, released on Wednesday.
The index is based on an international survey of 600,000 15-year-old students’ views about the level of discipline in the classroom, with a high proportion of Australian students reporting that the teacher is not listened to and it regularly takes a long time for the class to quieten down.
The only countries that fared worse than Australia for classroom unruliness were Belgium, the Philippines, Spain, Greece, France, Brazil and Argentina.

In other countries discipline has improved in Australia its getting more woeful by the minute.

"Australia was one of a minority of countries where it deteriorated, with a higher proportion of students reporting that the teacher has to wait a long time for students to settle down, that students cannot work well and that they don’t start learning for a long time after the lesson begins."
