The Australian Defence Signals Directorate gave permission to its global intelligence partners for all Australian's metadata to be given over in bulk, without limit. This occurred at a “5-eyes” conference hosted by Britain's GCHQ in Cheltenham on April 22-23, 2008.

The data would include medical and legal records, location and time stamps of all telephone calls and emails, as well as religious information. In other words anything people generate when using technology, whether about themselves or someone else, as in medical records.

"The Australian intelligence agency was reportedly willing to reveal more about its country's citizens, with fewer privacy restraints, than other countries."

The rise of the Stasi in Australia?

It seems that the Australian intelligence service has power over and above our government, as noted by some of the comments made by Tony Abbott in recent days over the Indonesian spying incident. They act independently...seems a dangerous amount of power and control in the hands of unelected and unknown people who work in the shadows.

As for our medical records, one can't but question what that has to do with the security of our nation. In fact the mind boggles as to the benefactors.
