If you dig around for Dr. Klinker’s CV, he hadn’t had a permanent job with the FDA for all that long when the ODAC meeting took place in 2020, if I remember correctly. Also, if I am not wrong, he started as a bit of a supporting actor if you look up the order of the meeting or some such info, then one may start understanding that perhaps a lack of experience and/or desire to show he could critique things, might have played a role in his stance.

People do change (looks like he also got his promotion in the last few years) and they can become more realistic (read as “flexible”) as they acquire more experience. If Covid hadn’t taught us that we live in a highly imperfect world and the need to be highly flexible, I don’t know what else would have done that.

Unfortunately, the cost of a junior bureaucrat’s on the job training seems to have been borne by us the drug sponsor.
