I am a great believer in the superiority of the free market over government ownership. I also believe nuclear power is inevitable in Australia unless we want to completely de-industrialise. However I believe the nuclear power plants should be government owned. Thats because; 1) Only the government can withstand the sovereign risk of future politicians trying to kill the industry during the long construction phase with aware or political whim. 2) Only the government has the long term stability to manage the nation's nuclear waste store. 3) In the highly unlikely event of an accident the commonwealth bears the risk, so it should enjoy the reward. bacci

#1 is particularly relevant except there's (still) nothing to stop a future government cancelling the deal part-way through construction. Just as many Australians wish would happen with the Renewable mania.
