China could try I guess, if they wanted to sail their invasion fleet across 5,000 miles of ocean, being harassed most of the way, just so they could invade Darwin or Perth. And then what? Drive their tanks across another 3,000 of inhospitable desert to reach any place of any significance?

We're lucky that we're at the ass end of the world and that most of the major cities are on the farthest fringes of the country. Nuclear weapons might be nice but I cannot see any rational reason for having them.
