A government run by millions of uninformed people will always be a disaster, but over time (in Australia certainly) there has been an insidious system by the leaders of increasing the politicians power and safety, they have introduced little pieces of legislation that have had the effect of making them "untouchable"
They can do, spend, say, or take any action that feel like without any fear of reprisals, look at some of the recent disastrous actions our leaders have taken over the last forty years which have altered the character and economic safety of Australians for ever. Look at the recent Australians Of the Year, in no way do they really represent what Australians consider suitable recipients

In Australia we are like the proverbial frog in the slowly increasing hot water, if we don't make changes we will be boiled to death without even noticing
When a system is broke there must be change and the change is not necessarily the system but the people, do we get better people or do we control the people better
Politicians, are not required to have any skills or training, there is no penalty for failure, they can't even be sacked or censured, because they are all in the "one club" they protect one another.
They just either do what they want to do, or act as they are told by their handlers who represent the lobbyists who in turn control their money flow, an insidious system that leaves the public out in the cold
