The whole western world was on a role at that point. They were all doing well. When Howard went out of power the western world was then set up for the GFC. Australia got out of it lightly in comparison to many others. But still needed baling.
Liberals/Conservatives/Republicans all tax high. But they don’t tax correctly. The rich, businesses and mainly diners to their party are systematically taxed lower. The general population? Taxed in abundance.
The socialist side always put in place the items that nurture and look after the nation. They tend to spend on social concepts rather than the “big business and defence” side of things.
Liberals have created the myth that Labour are the party of high taxes. It is a myth only.
If we had a wealth tax and business was taxed correctly, we wouldn’t have any issues. And the rich would still be rich and good businesses would still be good businesses.
When you stop the greed, you can move forward. Society is cattle trucked by the very few.
