SA doesn't use much electricity if 15% of their total energy mix is renewable and 85% is non-renewable. If 50% of electricity is renewables then 30% of the energy in SA is electrical energy and 70% fossil fuelled automotive/transport and industrial process energy (heat/chemical). If SA could increase renewables by say 500% from current level they could have a crack at powering electric cars
