I worked in the outback for years, I've got several friends who are mining engineers, geologists and I've owned mines and spent heaps of time in goldfields and lived in coal areas

mostly mining engineers are uneducated. Some are, but the ones I know that are, have travelled pretty extensively and not for work - when at work they are r's up in a hole or similar
