It's actually worse than this, as companies can be going backwards in profits, whilst share prices are increasing (through access to cheap money and share buy backs)....and some CEO's "performance" is based on share price.
To make things worse, in the USA it's not only "too big to fail".. it's also "too big to jail"and greedy top players can get rewarded for fraud, so little incentive to do the right thing, do the right thing by employees...
