No government can reduce revenue, increase spending and still improve the bottom line. That is one of the reasons why the budget is such a balls up.

Hockey's budgeted spending estimates are slightly higher than Labor's budgeted spending estimates (PEFO) for the same period, so there is zero improvement over this term of government.

Dumping over $7b income from the Carbon tax while keeping the compensation, has left the government looking for backdoor taxes to replace the revenue with things like the deficit levy.

Abbott has no plan for reducing debt, the plan is to create new spending like the PPL, $20b research fund, etc..


How much better would the budget bottom line be if the income from the Carbon tax, MRRT, Company tax, etc, was kept and the new spending of the PPL, DAP, $20b research fund, etc, was cancelled.

Have another look at what revenue the government is getting rid of, what taxes they implementing\increasing to replace them, and then look at the new spending and see what you come up with.

Abbott and Hockey's budget doesn't stand up to scrutiny as being any better than the previous government. The only thing that is changing is, where the money is coming from and where it is being spent, (change of agenda only).
