I'd like to see the detail of Dutton's plan before I make up my mind.
One element absent in all of the discussion seems to be any importance placed on linking of the electricity grids across the continent to facilitate sharing of renewable energy. The west coast could have two and a half extra hours of solar power every morning and east coast the same every evening; the 2 to 3 day migration of weather systems across the continent could mitigate the "feast or famine" availability of wind and solar. The tropics could be pumping power south throughout the southern capital winters. Sure, this implies a fair amount of redundancy, but maybe not as much as will be needed if everyone tries to go it alone...
