Bipartisan support for nuclear, except in Australia
The last fortnight has been a clear demonstration of how out of step the Australian Labor Party's position is on nuclear energy. Last week Keir Starmer, the leader of UK Labour, was elected Prime Minister. UK Labour were the original proponents for nuclear energy in the UK and continue to strongly support the technology with bipartisan support from the conservatives. Then, earlier this week, President Biden signed into law the ADVANCE act. The law designed to improve the regulatory conditions and support for the civil nuclear power industry with references to the coal to nuclear transition and microreactors. The act emphasised the bipartisan support for nuclear energy in the US. Meanwhile in Australia, the Australian Labor Party have been running a fear campaign based on disinformation and the Simpsons. In addition to the risk this behavior poses to our international relationships and AUKUS, it demonstrates a serious lack of maturity when approaching the energy crisis. In good news, after this fear campaign was exposed by Nuclear for Australia, there has been reporting in The Australian revealing that the Labor party have warned MPs against engaging in this behavior. The fear campaign unfortunately still persists and we will continue to keep the pressure up. Facts will defeat the fear. |
