Can't explain why Ontario is spending big on batteries to back up their poxy old nuclear plants .Neoen to build milestone battery project in Bruce County
TORONTO — France’s renewable energy giant Neoen has announced that its subsidiary Shift Solar has been awarded a 380-megawatt capacity contract by Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) and will be building Canada’s second largest battery project for energy storage, in Bruce County, Ont.
The project, Grey Owl Storage, will operate based on a 20-year contract. It will be located in the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie when it is commissioned in early 2028, stated a release.
Neoen, through its subsidiary Shift Solar, will be the long-term owner and operator of the battery. Grey Owl Storage will become the largest in Neoen’s portfolio.
In addition to Grey Owl Storage, Neoen’s portfolio of assets in Canada already includes the 93-megawatt Fox Coulee solar farm project located in Alberta, which is currently under construction and scheduled for commissioning in the coming weeks. Established in Calgary in 2022, Neoen is now also present in Toronto, and its Canadian teams are developing solar and storage projects in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario.
