14 biggest banks and funds back pledge to triple nuclear by 2050

To kick off New York Climate Week, on Monday the world's biggest banks and funds announced their support for nuclear energy. In total their assets amount to over $20 trillion AUD.

The banks and funds pledged to support the global goal to triple nuclear energy capacity by 2050 originally signed at COP28.

The move demonstrates that these organisations are no longer confident with the 100% renewable vision and see nuclear as a viable energy source that must be used around the world.

The full list of banks & funds includes:

    • Morgan Stanley
    • Bank of America
    • Goldman Sachs
    • Barclays
    • BNP Paribas
    • Citi
    • Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank
    • Ares Management
    • Brookfield
    • Crédit Agricole CIB
    • Guggenheim Securities
    • Rothschild & Co.
    • Segra Capital Management
    • & Société Générale.

Three Mile Island to restart in landmark deal with Microsoft

On Friday, Constellation announced that they will restore Three Mile Island Unit 1 to service and "keep it online for decades" in a 20 year power purchase agreement with Microsoft to power their data centres. The reactor was shutdown in 2019 but under this new agreement is expected to come back online by 2028.

This announcement is a part of the broader nuclear renaissance occurring around the world, in part triggered by the increased clean energy demand for AI and data centres.

As the world embraces nuclear, Australia's ban means we can't even consider it. We're falling out of step with the rest of the world.

To finish off a quick note from me.

As many of you may know I'm in Year 12 and my final exams are fast approaching. I'll be knuckling down to prepare and therefore you might not hear as much from me directly.

Importantly, I'm surrounded by an excellent team so you'll continue to see Nuclear for Australia out there making the case even in my brief absence.

We've also been preparing a few things that we look forward to continuing to roll out in the coming weeks. This includes our new look website which I'd encourage you to check out.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

    Kind Regards,
