Yes and after we paid for it to be stored in the USA for us, congress introduced some new laws which stated that the US government had to give approval for Australia to take back its oil. So if the US decided to sanction us, the oil will become US property. OH we had such a smart liberal Scotty government.
Now let's see how this will play out after a oil supply problem:
    * If Australia cannot import refined oil we run out of fuel in 2 weeks.
    * We send a request to the US "can we please have our oil"
    * Congress considers our request and approves the delivery. The oil is stored in the ground so we bear the cost of some non-recovery
    * We transport the oil to a third country where we get it refined (this will take up to a month)
    * By now severe hardship affects the Australian population.
    * We import the refined oil to Australia and distribute it (providing that the ship has not been intercepted by a hostile power)
    * Our Australia defence chiefs dislocate their shoulders from patting themselves on the back for having such a brilliant energy strategy to recommend to Scotty.

--- and taking this to the ridiculous extreme:
    * Military is called on to shoot rebelling unarmed civilians. (Ben Roberts Smith is rehired based on his valuable prior experience in Afghanistan)
