For what it's worth, my daughter went to a public high school and got 3 perfect scores in Year 12 and an invitation to Government House. Went to uni and got in the top 5% academically for the uni. Most of her public high school friends did well too.
Most of her friends from private schools however, including Scotch College, struggled. They didn't have their private school teachers "editing" (= writing) their essays any more and doing their assignments.
Of course all the private school kids needed to get were bare passes though. Once they had a qualification they got jobs in firms with other private school graduates. In Adelaide, many firms - law, architecture, accountancy, medical specialists etc. - are made up almost exclusively of graduates from the same private school. It's good to know that so you can avoid them, as most are pretty useless.
