Countries like the United States, Canada are heavily compulsed by some major misconceptions about Australia almost as though Australia is from Mars to them? As are the british, most europeans and asia. Now Canada and the US both have a lot of snow and incredible beauty. Whereas, Australia only has inhospitable, flat, unrelenting desert. Or does it?
Australia has no real desert’s like the US/Asia/African continent or saudi arabia and the mideast. Our deserts are generally pretty hospitable places, unless you include the simpson desert, south australia. Two of the three are actually teeming with trees and life, and water if you know where to go like the aboriginals used to do. In fact 2/3rds of the continent has water and vast amounts of it underground in reserves known as artesian bores. Much of which is used to fertilise the vast interior for agricultural purposes.
In fact some of the artesian bores have been overflowing across the interior of the australian landscape quite freely for over one hundred years largely via farmers and cattle stations who neglect to close them down once they’ve initiated them for agricultural use, all surplus from thousands of years of harborage underneath the continent in the 3 or four great artesian basins Australia has recourse to.
These 3–4 artesian basins are the size of large european nations. And whenever major flooding occurs like it has over the last 5–6 years, which has been almost non-stop, and even then, great inland flooding does occur once every 5–10 years, with much of that water going straight back into these vast underground basins remaining to be a reliable resource as agricultural water, water that is potable, if distilled.
So, there’s absolutely 0 reason why there are no major inland cities in Australia’s interior for much of it is incredibly blessed in terms of scenery whether mountainscapes, hillsides, woodlands, water or arid desert landscape. The myth of the martian landscape that can never be settled is just that imho MYTH. Australia’s continental land mass is as much riven by mountain ranges or hills than flatlands.
Indeed the central part of this land has mountain ranges that regularly exceed heights of 5,000 feet with much of the northern territory, western australia, queensland, nsw countrysides filled with mountain ranges and their breakaways. So in effect, Australia is flat when it is not hillside/valley or mountain ranges.
Real reason is australian governments over a long period have never invested or placed infrastructure into anywhere bar 5–6 cities which are now teeming with huge populations! Cities like Sydney with 8-million’s, or Melbourne which is headed to upwards of 9-million, then Brisbane-Perth with similar trajectories.
When and IF Australian govts ever decide to make our many lovely smaller inland cities & towns across the interior and isolated coastal regions more pleasant places to live & work in like our increasingly over-stressed cities, this country would be far far better for it.
Much of this divestment of the nations rural regions is through economic imperatives that come from the 1980’s on down specifying australia as a primarily service nation and not a manufacturing one. An economic philosophy that has effectively devastated the nation as little more than a giant quarry or mine site. Or one only the very rich or the political class actually benefit from via the cheap sell-off of this nation’s national mineral assets and resources to foreign owners like the Chinese, who then expect and obtain the right to import their own labour directly from China under the acquiescence of australian governments. And it isn’t only the Chinese that get away with doing this!
Or where rich, north Asian nations like Korea, China, Japan, Malaysia obtain these resources rather cheaply for manufacturing purposes, compared to how much they would need to pay for them IF, australia actually started processing these minerals thereby reviving its own manufacturing capacity and opening up a whole world of possibilities in terms of development and career prospects other than as a lowly paid waiter, fruit picker, delivery driver or garbage collector.
Career pathways which are increasingly under considerable competition wage wise from foreign labour especially asian ‘students’ [who often as not don’t spend much time at university they spend most of their time working in low waged casual factory-service related jobs], as well backpackers from europe-britain-new zealand-canada-united states.
My calculations of how detrimental this has been to australia’s working-middle classes over the last 4–5 decades is a median wage that has remained stagnant since the 1980’s! A median wage of approx 23,000 aust dollars annually, which should be 10 times this amount if not for all of the introduced cheap labour wrought upon australian society almost non-stop over the last 50-years.Instead of the land of the free, Australia has become the land of homelessness. Where the only people who gain from this low wage mediocrity are 3rdWorld workers on an hourly rate only viable if sent back overseas in order to buy land or a business in the old country. Or for backpackers who only need the money to keep traveling across the country cheap while living freely in vans, before heading off to asia on the proceeds of such cheap labour.
Another important reason why people do not want to live in the lovely interior or away from huge cities or coastal areas is the lack of facilities whether this be; hospitals/doctors/job prospects [other than as a fifo job in the highly paid mining industry]/lack of entertainment/service/industrial precincts/accommodation.
Therefore our rural areas remain largely dominated by rich landowning agriculturalists or the low income white small town resident or rich, politically very powerful indigenous overlords who like the rich pastoralist control vast land entitlements that remain hellholes for many of them because of the entrenched, rarely criticised penchant for violence they [1stNations peoples] are prone to.
Now Canada has a population of around 34-millions. However, I for one of many do not believe aus govt official stats on Australia’s population, which I think is even higher than Canada’s. Australia’s true population is in fact much higher than the mere 25-million govt statisticians would have one believe! In my opinion the australian population would have to be above the 35-million mark at the very least, and would even have exceeded that by now, since imo that was at least 25-yrs ago from my and many others rather suspicious viewpoints![why the suspicion? because i truly believe over the last 3–4 decades Australia’s political class have been bribed into selling off their own nation along with its assets and it’s people’s into Asian usery, specifically Chinese/Indian/Indonesian/Malaysian subservience largely under the manipulative bullying machinations of the #UN #WEF #WTO].
I defy anyone to fly over australia [esp the eastern seaboard], from east to west, north to south by air and remain convinced by the lie of its supposed ‘only’ 25 million people!?
For instance; Perth the largest city on the west coast is said to have less than 2-million people, when it sprawls for over 60-kms east to west and over 200-kms north to south. And it isn’t all burbs like LA. It is becoming extremely dense these days [burbs being torn down literally everywhere for high-rise apartments]. Yet, presumably if one believes govt stats, it still has similar pop to what it had in the 1980’s, only 1.500,000 million peeps. That has to be the joke of the new century!
This has been perpetrated by ‘political leaders’ themselves utterly governed by polls, who lacking any innovation whatsoever have sought to inflict upon this nation this giant ponzi scheme for the last 50yrs in which native born australians have become 2nd class citizens in their own country. A massive immigration ponzi scheme wrought on the australian populace, designed to make a bunch of power obsessed, politicians who have never worked in the private sector in their entire careerist lives, along with their impoverished governments, look half decent!
