Yeah I pretty much sgree with the comments at the end of that article Hotfire. GM is pretty much unsustainable and needs to restructure, the others aren't much better and will fail. But losing the amount of jobs they produce will kill the US economy, and for $100 billion or so they can keep them going for a while, which is going to be far less than Obamas stimulus package.
They will go down eventually though, at least one of them needs to dissapear and the others need to sack a stack of workers. They make far too many different cars, Chrystler makes hideously ugly cars that could only apeal to yanks.
