That is terrible news .
That said , unfortuately this is a consequence of progress . Doesn't mean it's acceptable but it would be interesting to know what actually happened . It appears that the car didn't ' see ' the pedestrian which seems a bit unusual .
To the comment about driverless cars and profits . While there will obviously be some money made ( that's how business works ) , the benefit to humans will far exceed the downsides in my opinion .
Driverless cars have the potential to reduce road deaths to almost zero . At the moment people seem to accept road deaths as part of life .
When you think about it , that line of thinking is crazy . And especially when those deaths are almost exclusively caused by the poor driving of other humans .
Your family is already at risk of irresponsible drivers using phones , drinking , taking drugs and more . They are causing accidents and deaths every day .
Sure , autonomous cars are nowhere near good enough yet and won't be for a long time . But , I'm confident they will get there and the benefits will far outweigh the shortcomings .
