Here in southern Vic you don't need to bother.
If you put out feed and shelter,
the rose clippings and leaves after you run them over with the mower.
In a couple of weeks, magic, worms everywhere.
Really don't like roses; have dozens of them.
Always end up blood and scratches when pruning.
Used to throw out clippings.
Now mow them and they compost great.
