its price action that defines trend. BB are just a method of trying to capture 95% of that movement, therefore BBs are a derivative of price action. Often times during steep rise or fall, SP will "hug" or cross the Bollinger band. like with any technical analysis, change of trends must be confirmed by more than 1 indicator.
