I think the key to averaging down is to take advantage of the spikes to reduce your holding, otherwise you become over weight and end up with all your cash tied up in one stock on a down trend.
Pre election I doubled down at 50c which brought me down to 65c average.
As soon as the sp was above 65c I raised my stop loss on the additional parcel ready to ride it up, or jump on the retrace.
Ill do this again if the sp drops to 50c before the next ann
