IMO just does not work with a falling SP. Can work with a SP that is trading withing a range, even a large range over a period of time.
It is mathematically impossible to average down to the current price, unless huge bets (in relation to the original stake) were placed at between 48 and 55c, assuming the initial price was over $1.
I think my point is that with LYC, averaging down has caused bigger and bigger bets to be placed, and even when averaged down to near the current SP there are substantial paper losses involved. This is gambling not investing due to the risk profile of doing so.
I personally don't have any issue with gambling - it is what it is.
