The net zero target is for 2050, and Australia’s interim target for 2030 is 43%. The LNP are saying they won’t commit to that before the next election due to economic uncertainty and will view that at the time.
Election is next year, I’d suggest the economy won’t be much better. The best way the government (whichever party) can lower people’s energy prices is by transitioning to net zero as quickly as possible, and using remaining fossil fuels to power kilns, haul vanadium in trucks etc. until other technologies catch up.
I’d suggest labor, teals and greens win enough seats next election to keep the LNP to account when it comes to climate policy.
