Signs of oversupply in the avocado market were apparent early last year. Demand may be growing at 6% but plantings have increased by multiples of this amount. Unfortunately production from Peru, Chile, Mexico etc is also growing at a great rate, and our wage rates are uncompetitive, so the export market is unlikely to provide any relief.
CGC timed their entry into the avocado market very badly.
