So true Spruik. We lived out in the boonies as a child and I remember my mother getting a Vorwerk vacuum and a set of Britannica Encyclopaedias. The Vorwerk is still one of the best on the market - saw one at Godfrey's recently and it does absolutely everything; mind you it is expensive .
I bought a Kirby vacuum set (American) over 20 years ago from a door to door salesman and it's still going well.
Common denominator - all top quality, expensive and long lasting.
