Golden cross on what time frames ?? if you mean the 50 and 200 day EMA,s they are quite reliable but you have missed a shipload of the rise as its a lagging indicator and very late entry signal

as a rule of thumb for long term investors who dont follow T/A the 50 and 200 day EMA death cross is the final get out signal to not end up being a bag holder - so as a general guideline ideally you want all of your portfolio to be above the 200 EMA and not hold any that have death crossed.
