I agree with your thoughts. No deforestation is one of the pros to a nickel miner I'm in.
Both copper and nickel are forecast for massive shortages, if you read BHP's annual report, Sumitomo, Glencore the list goes on. There's hard constraints which make it not as simple as just activating more supply and companies have to tread very carefully.
It's one of the only things I'm super bullish on despite the state of the economy and reckless money printing, because the west's desire for electrification is linked to it's very survival. It's not about clean energy at all and there's big geopolitical forces at play.
