Well said Met. Though the last line says it all, "debate among geologists about the exact mechanism" means that sedex is basically a generic process whereby numerous different types of minerals spurted out into a salty, briny sludge and then settled back into the sedimentary strata until discovered and mined.
I wonder if too much weight is often given to the "mother lode". We know mineralisation is transported from A to B, maybe all of it has? Maybe the mother lode is all now between the surface and 150m depth? Maybe there will be ten to twelve open pits 200m deep with 75m to 150m mineralised zones a km long each, and 300m wide. Wouldn't be bad?
