BHP was vocal about their plans back then, of which copper was nowhere near a priority like it is today. One can see this in their annual reports and corporate statements from the time period.

Contrast that against now where they are conversely very vocal about their intention to make copper a larger portion of the portfolio.

I'm personally glad BHP did not have this opinion back then, otherwise we wouldn't have an opportunity here.
