Most new players into options do have early losses. Part of the learning process.
Have to mange timelines and news flows within those timelines and keep in mind what sort of potential changes in prices are on offer. These things all effect option pricing as well.
Reversion to the mean is something else to remember. We are currently below it with low turnover. Is that the best time to buy or the worst?
