Here is a fascinating presentation on how they discovered the Kamoa-Kakula copper deposit. Well worth a listen. When Ivanhoe picked up the licences around the edges of the DRC copper belt it was thought to be the end of the deposits and they weren't believed to be prospective at that time. Their thesis however was that even though the prospective rocks weren't necessarily there possibly the fluids kept going.
