Totally agree with your thoughts - except with the twice testing concept.
I can not recall where I got it from but the best concept I have come to embrace is that it needs to touch any part of a candle at least 3 times before verification. It does not need to start or finish at the point but merely touches it.
I appreciate the opportunity to rationally discuss various options.
