Logic doesn't permit 'believing whatever you like.'
That is the error that both you and your mathematician make, where he believes what he finds satisfying regardless of logic and just asserts what he believes in a bombastic manner....when logic and reason should tell him - if his mind was open - that it is evidence that justifies belief, not faith, not 'believe in whatever you like.'
