The 60-plus employees of Southern Precision Machining in Shelbyville were honored Tuesday for their efforts in making their company an Elite Supplier for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company. Local officials joined with State Sen. Jim Tracy and State Rep. Pat Marsh to applaud the company for the achievement. Dan Pleshko, Vice President, Procurement & Supply Chain Services came to Shelbyville to present the award. Lockheed Martin has 1,500 suppliers, Pleshko said, and two years ago they established a program to recognize their highest performing suppliers like Shelbyville’s SPM. Lockheed Martin “is over 70 percent outsourced,” he said. “You are an extension of us. I wanted to come and meet you face-to-face and say thank you.” Lockheed Martin has manufactured 4,500 F16s and is currently at “the pivot point of success” with its latest warplane, the F35, Pleshko said.
