The key word is INVESTIGATIONS. Gillard may be hanging her hat on the fact that investigations into dodgy union bank accounts were instigated by AWU head office in early August 95 in Victoria.
LATE SEPTEMBER 95 - National leadership of AWU asks VIctorian major fraud squad to INVESTIGATE Wilson and Blewitt. Both police and AWU are still unaware of the "slush fund" because GIllard and S & G did not tell them.
SEPTEMBER 96 - Cambridge and other AWU officials demand fraud probe by Perth police but no co-operation by various parties.
NOTE - at some stage the AWU national leadership moved the account from S & G to Maurice Blackburn. It would be very interesting to see what happened to the files that were passed over to Nicola Roxon,among other people.
