    Hi All

I thought wecould have a separate thread for the 12CQ chip and all the milestones achieved .Thoseinvested for the longer term know that we are at a turning point in quantum computingcapability. And the consensus is that while it isn’t going to happen in thenext week, it is nearing use cases in materials science (if this rings any bells),finance, chemistry, defence, AI and machine learning. For now, even a fewqubits can do useful things like be random number generators which is whatencryption keys use. Quantum number generators produce these much more reliablythan classical computers and this is of course critical in cryptography.

Point beingthat there is no industry or government that is ignoring quantum computing anymore.

There are two sides to the Quantum computing industry - Hardware and software. AXE has taken on the more challenging and value-critical hardware build of a quantum chip. Their qubits exploit the properties of synthetically produced carbon nanospheres or “Carbon Onions” as Martin calls them. This is a carbon variant that Mo produced in a lab a while ago. The key advantage of using this material is its ability to achieve long enough de coherence times ( or spin lifetimes) at room temperature. Eliminating the need for cryogenic equipment. It also lends itself to easier integration into chips used in mobile devices.

This is aspecialised chip and can be best exploited with some specific software writtenwith the chip’s particular capabilities in mind. In the digital chip spacethese are termed Application Specific Integrated Circuits or ‘ASICs’. AXE is thereforeaiming to engineer a functioning chip with optimised software algorithms.

Complex techlike this does not allow easy ‘copying’ or a fast-follow. I would say this is asignificant moat from a commercial pov. If the fabrication of qubit chips wasn’thard enough, there is also all the delicate tweaking of microwave pulses at theright frequencies that in turn put the qubits into the required states.

    Cheers

    Geeris.
