and as for hitting upon the right material to get stable qubits at room temp, it could have been some great good fortune at work, but that's very often what's needed for breakthrough in R &D
With this, they can mitigate environmental interference in a passive, less complex way as opposed to other ways that involve pulsed fields and all the extra equipment to shield and cool. It's a simple, elegant solution.
